Action timeline

May 22, 1984 – The oceanic Hawaiian damselfly was assigned candidate status by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, which meant that it was given no Endangered Species Act protections.

July 12, 2011 – The Center reached a landmark agreement with the Fish and Wildlife Service compelling the agency to move forward in the protection process for 757 species, including the oceanic Hawaiian damselfly.

August 1, 2011 – The Service proposed to protect 23 species on the Hawaiian island of Oahu, including the oceanic Hawaiian damselfly, as endangered under the Endangered Species Act.

August 8, 2012 – The oceanic Hawaiian damselfly was federally protected after our historic 757 species agreement.
